Latest Metrowerks OSEK/VDX OS Helps Automotive Developers Improve Vehicle Controls Applications
Robust OSEKturbo OS Includes Deterministic Scheduling, Offers Stable Platform For Building Automotive Applications
AUSTIN, Texas, July 28 -- Metrowerks has added deterministic scheduling capabilities to one of the most robust OSEK operating systems available with the launch today of OSEKturbo(TM) OS Version 2.2. Developed in accordance with the Software Engineering Institute's (SEI(TM)) highest Capability Maturity Model(R) (CMM) rating, the operating system is designed to help developers of automotive controls systems improve memory usage, shorten development cycles and ultimately create more reliable, safer solutions by uncovering system timing problems early in the development process.
Automobile manufacturers and suppliers use the high-performance and memory-efficient OSEKturbo OS, based on the OSEK/VDX(TM) Operating System (OS) standard for real-time vehicle controls, to quickly design and build sophisticated safety-enhancement and comfort-level systems. With OSEKturbo(TM) OS Version 2.2, automakers now have the added ability to design, analyze and collect data about the timing behavior of an OSEK real-time system using Rate Monotonic Analysis (RMA) techniques. The additional functionality allows developers to identify recommended task priorities that define the optimal system under the requirements provided.
"Metrowerks is recognized as an innovative force in enabling software and systems development, and this newest offering demonstrates our commitment to helping developers create next generation automotive controls systems technologies," said Michael O'Donnell, automotive industry manager, Metrowerks. "OSEKturbo(TM) OS Version 2.2 is engineered to give transportation developers sharper visibility into systems timing behavior, which is crucial for creating high-quality vehicle controls applications."
"As automotive controls systems grow increasingly complex, developers need reliable operating systems and design tools that can analyze timing behavior in a real-time environment," said Steve Balacco, senior analyst, Venture Development Corporation. "The combination of platform stability and timing predictability of the Metrowerks OSEKturbo(TM) operating system gives developers greater visibility into system timing attributes, ultimately resulting in more robust applications."
OSEK developers can also use the award-winning CodeWarrior(TM) Integrated Development Environment to handle board bring-up and application tasks. The CodeWarrior product simplifies project setup with processor initialization support and sample code, streamlines development processes by supporting multiple processors, and increases developer productivity by providing a consistent look and feel across different silicon architectures.
The OSEKturbo OS is available for a wide range of microcontroller architectures including 8-, 16- and 32-bit designs.
