Delphi Delivers Comfort and Convenience Technologies For the All-New 2004 Chrysler Pacifica
TROY, Mich., July 28 -- Several Delphi Corp. technologies are helping bring comfort and convenience to drivers of the all-new Chrysler Pacifica sports touring vehicle. Delphi provides its heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) controls, power liftgate technology, modular door switches, and fuel modules for the Pacifica. As optional equipment, Delphi also delivers satellite digital audio radio receivers for SIRIUS satellite radio service.
"Convenience and comfort features can play a part in influencing vehicle purchase decisions and Delphi is excited to offer technologies that help the Chrysler Group differentiate its brands in an extremely crowded marketplace," said Don Runkle, Delphi's vice chairman, chief technology officer and customer champion for the Chrysler Group account. "The Chrysler Pacifica was introduced with a lot of anticipation and consumer enthusiasm and Delphi is pleased to be a part of such an exciting vehicle."
To help optimize the comfort of vehicle occupants, Delphi provides an innovative HVAC control that uses infrared thermopile sensors mounted in the instrument panel. The sensor detects the temperature from the direction of the driver and passenger. This infrared power, together with the local temperature at the thermopile, takes into consideration more than 50 variables to better estimate the surface temperature of the occupants. That information is then used to appropriately adjust the systems air output to help maintain the best climate for occupants.
Delphi's power liftgate offers the convenience of opening and closing the rear liftgate at the push of a button. This is the first Chrysler Group application of Delphi's patented D-pillar power liftgate technology. The D-pillar technology offers quiet operation in an easily packaged drive unit, without interfering with the rear backlight opening. The Chrysler Pacifica's power liftgate may be operated manually, from an interior switch or a remote keyless entry device.
In addition, Delphi is providing door module switches for all four doors. Delphi's multiplexed power switches control window operation and door locking. The driver's controls adjust side mirrors and can lock out window operation from other switches. The switches are delivered in modular form for easier integration, higher quality and lower manufacturing costs, and play an important role in creating a luxury interior.
Delphi is also delivering modular fuel reservoir assemblies for the Chrysler Pacifica. In addition to the low-profile design and use of the latest turbine fuel pump technology, these modules meet the stringent LEV II emissions requirements.
As optional equipment, Chrysler Pacifica features the choice of SIRIUS satellite radio service. Delphi provides the digital audio reception system capable of receiving the satellite broadcast signal, bringing SIRIUS' 100 channels of music, sports, news and other programming to vehicle occupants.
