AUBERLEN GOES FLAG-TO-FLAG IN SPEED TOURING AT INFINEON;
BMW FIRST, FOURTH, SEVENTH AND 10TH
Bill Auberlen, driving the No. 93 Turner Motorsport BMW 325i, gave another
driving clinic to his Speed Touring-class competitors as he scored his third
pole-position-to-checkered-flag SCCA Pro Racing Speed Touring victory of the
season in winning the 23-lap Round 5 race today on the 2.52-mile Infineon
Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.
Auberlen won by .577 seconds over the Mazda of Jeff Altenburg and set the
fastest lap of the race (1:53.575).
Earlier in the day Auberlen led flag-to-flag in the Speed GT race driving
his No. 7 BMW Team PTG M3.
Auberlen's first win of the season came at the Speed Touring season opener
at Sebring (Fla.) International Raceway and his second at Road Atlanta in
the Round 4 race one month ago.
Rounding out the top-10 for BMW was Ken Dobson, who had a season-best fourth
in his No. 7 Chili Pepper Racing 325Ci; Will Tuner was seventh in his No. 92
Turner Motorsports 325i; and Matt Richmond, in the No. 37 Bimmerworld 328i,
was 10th..
BMW continues to lead the Touring Manufacturer's Championship. Auberlen tops
the Driver's Championship standings and Will Turner moves up to third.
The race is scheduled to be aired on pee Channel on August 2 at 4 p.m. ET.
BILL AUBERLEN, No. 93 TURNER MOTORSPORTS BMW 325i (first):
"When you drive a BMW you are driving the best. Every time I race one I feel
I can go for the win. I am carrying a lot of REWARDS weight and it is
hurting the tires and now (with this win) we will have to deal with more."
KEN DOBSON, No. 7 CHILI PEPPER RACING BMW 325Ci (fourth):
"We had some problems in qualifying, but Rebello Engines built us a new
engine for this event and the crew worked all night to put it in before the
race. I started 11th and made a good move up to sixth, but got turned around
and had to fight my way back. It was a tough race and fourth is the best of
the season so far so I am pleased."
WILL TURNER, No. 92 TURNERMOTORSPORTS BMW 325i (seventh):
"My race was great; very close, but no contact. It is my third time here
and the track seems to change every time. I do not have a Masters degree at
this track like my teammate Bill Auberlen and am happy to move from 12th to
seventh."
