NHRA Saturday: KJ Remains Rock Steady, Slots Second in Seattle

Event: 16th annual Carquest Nationals
Location: Pacific Raceways
       Kent, Washington
Day/Date: Saturday July 26, 2003

Weather conditions for the second day of qualifying for the Carquest Nationals were ideal for the Pro Stock contingent, producing a marked drop in elapsed times. Kurt Johnson's ACDelco Cavalier remained among the elite in the category, posting no worse than the second quickest elapsed time in each of the four qualifying sessions.

Johnson's run of record came on Saturday morning, when he posted an elapsed time of 6.784 seconds with a top speed of 203.61 mph to qualify second for Sunday's eliminations at Pacific Raceways.

"This is a tough place. You have to balance power, which we had plenty of today, with getting down the track. Fortunately, everything is coming together for us right now. Our ACDelco Cavalier is responding well to the adjustments we're making to it, and the crew is making good decisions. If everyone continues to do their job tomorrow, including the driver, we have a good chance at winning. It's just up to us to make sure it happens."
