LE MANS WINNING PETERSEN MOTORSPORTS/WHITE LIGHTNING RACING OVERCOMES
LATE START TO RACE AT INFINEON
LAS VEGAS, July 23, 2003 - 24 Hours of Le Mans GT Class winner Petersen
Motorsports/ White Lightning Racing has further shown the incredible
strength of the team as it prepares for the Grand Prix of Sonoma
Presented by Napa Valley Marriott Hotel and Spa & Foster's Lager. Due
to a miscommunication out of the team's hands, the #31 Westward Ho
Casino/ MMPIE/ PAWS/ XtraJet/ Justice Brothers Michelin-shod Porsche 911
GT3 RS arrived at the Las Vegas race shop from France on Thursday, July
17 instead of the anticipated July 1. The two-week delay to get ready
for the July 27th American Le Mans Series (ALMS) race changed the pace
of preparing the brand-new, as of Le Mans, Porsche from leisurely to a
precision orchestrated thrash. However, despite the delay- which was
magnified by the team's transporter and much of its equipment being with
the car- preparation of the familiar Porsche with the red lightning bolt
livery has been completed in the typical meticulous fashion of the team.
The Westward Ho/ MMPIE transporter will roll to Sonoma, Calif. for
Sunday's two hour and 45-minute sports car event at Infineon Raceway
with time to spare. The Michael Petersen-owned and Dale White-managed
team, with aces Johnny Mowlem of Warfield England and Long Beach,
California's Craig Stanton behind the wheel, finished second at the
season-opening 12 Hours of Sebring and stands as a strong threat to take
this week's top honors in GT class.
"I am very pleased with how Kent (Moore, lead technician), Nico
(Castellaccio, technician)
and the whole Petersen Motorsports/ White Lightning crew came together
to get this car ready to race," offered White. "Every step of the way
was well orchestrated and carried out just as it would have been had we
had six months to prepare the car. We just did it more quickly. I have
no doubt in my mind that this will be the best prepared race car at
Sonoma. It is a testament to the team, to the Porsche 911 and to Mike
(Petersen) that we could turn the car around so quickly. I can't wait to
get to the track and give AJR (Alex Job Racing) a run."
Petersen Motorsports/ White Lightning Racing began operation in the late
1980s competing in off-road endurance events. The duo of White and
Petersen joined to win over 50 off-road truck victories including
three-consecutive overall wins at the Baja 1000 and Baja 500 and four
SCORE, SNORE and SODA championships. Since introducing the team to
sports car racing, the effort has scored victories in the Trans-Am
Series, Speed Challenge Series and endurance sports car wins at the 24
Hours of Le Mans, Watkins Glen and at the Rolex 24 of Daytona.
