SHANE LEWIS SEES EFFORT STARTING TO PAY OFF FOR ACEMCO
JUPITER, Fla., July 23, 2003 - Since joining ACEMCO Motorsports the
morning of the 12 Hours of Sebring in March, Shane Lewis has guided the
ACEMCO Automotive Ferrari 360 GT to the lead at the 24 Hours of Le Mans
and the team's best ever finish in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) at
Road Atlanta in June. The combination of Lewis' driving skill and
detail-oriented mind for chassis set-up with the precision operation of
the Spring Lake, Mich.-based race team has shown a potential winner in
the ultra-competitive GT class of the ALMS. Sunday, Lewis and ACEMCO
bring the #63 Yokohama-shod Ferrari to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma,
Calif. for the Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma Presented by Napa Valley
Marriott Hotel and Spa & Foster's Lager. The California-born driver will
team for the first time with Phoenix, Arizona's Terry Borcheller. The
duo, considered one of the best driver pairings in the ALMS, will give
ACEMCO its best opportunity to date to win an ALMS event.
"Infineon Raceway should give us our best shot yet for a podium with the
ACEMCO Automotive Ferrari," commented Lewis excited about his prospects
for round-three of the 2003 ALMS race season. "The run at Le Mans got
the team going in the right direction. The fifth place at Road Atlanta
just kept the momentum moving. That brings us to Sonoma and this track
should play to many of the Ferrari's strengths. Jeff (Giangrande, ACEMCO
Motorsports, owner) is taking all the right steps to make this a winning
operation. The Ferrari is running extremely well and we just came off a
great two-day test. The guys wouldn't let me out of the car we were
learning so much. Now, with Terry joining the team, we've added another
big piece to the puzzle. Terry brings a lot of experience from driving
the Risi Ferrari and we're good friends. He'll be a great co-driver. As
a team, we turned a corner at Le Mans and we're starting to see the
results of the hard work the team has put in. It all comes back to the
ACEMCO Motorsports team and their efforts."
Shane Lewis is the 1998 Professional Sports Car Racing Rising Star award
winner and is a multiple race winner in IMSA, SCCA Pro and Grand-Am
sanctioned events. He has raced in three 24 Hours of Le Mans, six 24
Hours of Daytona, seven 12 Hours of Sebring and four Petit Le Mans.
Lewis, a regular top-five finisher in ALMS competition, has earned ALMS
podium finishes at Silverstone, the Nurburgring and Portland and is one
of the few drivers with experience in the four major classes of
international sports car racing (LMP 900, LMP 675, GTS and GT). He
drives the ACEMCO Motorsports Ferrari 360 GT Modena in the ALMS and the
Nuzzo Motorsports Mini Cooper S in Grand-Am Cup.
