Delphi Delco Introduces New Back-Up Aid Accessory

Delphi Designed System Fits Many Applications for Added Protection

KOKOMO, Ind., July 23 -- Delphi Delco Electronics Systems recently introduced its new Forewarn(R) Back-Up Aid (BUA) retrofit kit available through selected Pana-Pacific distributors across the U.S. and Canada. The Delphi subsidiary is marketing the two models that fit into a 2-inch trailer hitch or permanently mounts to the vehicle.

The new system is designed for adaptation to cars, trucks, SUVs, recreational vehicles, commercial vehicles, utility trailers and other vehicles to help drivers detect objects -- and people -- as they back up. Delphi's Forewarn BUA system delivers one of the longest-range detection zones on the market.

"We are pleased to make this safety system available to a broad section of consumers," said Mary Schafer, Delphi Business Line Executive for Chassis and Safety. "The Forewarn Back-Up Aid System can help provide back-up detection for drivers of pre-owned vehicles, as well as, new vehicles not equipped with a BUA as original equipment. All in all, our system offers better performance and range than most systems on the market at a lower overall cost."

Delphi's innovative system uses radar technology to help drivers avoid objects behind their vehicle that might not be visible from the driver's seat. The Forewarn Back-Up Aid is on whenever the ignition is switched on and the vehicle is in reverse gear. The robust radar enables the system to detect objects farther away than most systems. The system can detect objects as far as 16.4 feet away. The system sounds a loud audible warning when a person or object is detected and the warning becomes more frequent as the car gets vehicle gets closer to the obstacle or person.

The Forewarn Back-Up Aid system helps detect pets, other vehicles, children and other objects in the rear blind spot when the vehicle is in reverse gear. The system assists drivers in a wide range of environmental conditions including darkness, bright sunlight, rain, fog and snow. Unlike some systems, radar is not affected by loud background noises. The system continually performs self-checks when the vehicle is in reverse and if a problem is detected it becomes inactive and alerts the driver with a rapid beep.

"At last, safety-conscious parents and vehicle owners do not have to buy a whole new vehicle to get the added benefit they need when backing their vehicle," Schafer said. "As the market moves toward larger vehicles that sit high off the ground, these systems have become extremely helpful in preventing back-up accidents with obstacles that are not be visible in the rear blind spot."

Installation of the Forewarn BUA system is quick and simple. The system can be permanently installed on the rear of the vehicle or in a removable configuration using a 2-inch hitch-mount. The hitch-mount version allows quick changeover for trailering simply by unplugging and removing the sensor from the hitch.

Forewarn BUA features a high-performance, FCC-approved, 17 GHz radar sensor that has a lightweight, rugged design. The radar sensor is encased in anodized aluminum and the system controller, installed inside the vehicle, is made of high-impact plastic to help resist corrosion and damage. Wiring harnesses are available in two lengths.

The Forewarn BUA system is licensed for use in the U.S. and Canada. The Forewarn family of collision warning systems is designed to supplement other safety practices. Responsibility for safe operation of the vehicle remains with the driver. To locate a dealer, call PANA-PACIFIC at 1-800-726-2636 for outlets nearest you.
