New Grand Prix Sports Bosch Vehicle Stability System

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., July 21 -- Robert Bosch Corporation is the supplier of the vehicle stability system on General Motors' new 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Bosch's line-up on the Grand Prix includes the antilock brake system (ABS) and Enhanced Traction System as an option on the base GT model. Bosch's ABS and traction control system are standard equipment on the Grand Prix GTP models, and all ABS-equipped models include Bosch's tire pressure monitoring system to alert drivers of low tire pressure. Bosch's electronic stability program (ESP) is part of the optional package on the GTP models.

ESP is an active safety system that enhances vehicle stability in critical situations by selectively applying brakes and reducing engine torque to help the driver maintain control of the vehicle. The system accomplishes this through the use of sensors that constantly compare the driver's intention with the vehicle's actual behavior. When the system senses the driver is losing control of the vehicle, it activates individual brakes and/or reduces engine torque to help the driver keep the vehicle stable and headed in the intended direction.

"We are pleased to be able to meet General Motors' needs for premium stability control on the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix," said Hans Weckerle, president of Robert Bosch Corporation's Chassis Division. "I am confident that driving enthusiasts will be pleased with the way Pontiac has used Bosch ESP to combine performance and excitement with safety and stability on the new Grand Prix."

Bosch designs and produces precision automotive components and systems sold to vehicle and powertrain manufacturers worldwide. These include systems and components for gasoline and diesel injection, airbag components, braking systems, telematics, as well as small motors, electrical and electronic equipment.

Robert Bosch Corporation, the wholly owned subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH, headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, is responsible for North American operations.
