NHRA Friday: Kurt Johnson Remains Consistent, Qualifies
Second in Denver
Event: 24th annual Mile High Nationals
Location: Bandimere Speedway
Morrison, CO
Day/Date: Saturday July 19, 2003
Kurt Johnson completed a very impressive qualifying session on Saturday at the Mile-High Nationals in Denver, CO, capturing the second position. In fact, on each of his four attempts at Bandimere Speedway, Johnson's ACDelco Cavalier posted the second quickest elapsed time among the 27 competitors vying for a spot in Sunday's final eliminations. His best effort came on Saturday morning, when he posted an elapsed time of 7.227 seconds with a top speed of 190.51 mph.
"The ACDelco Cavalier was extremely consistent throughout qualifying, running as straight as can be. I also had a good day on the tree, with a .30 and a .10 on the tree today. If I can continue that tomorrow, I should be able to go some rounds and earn some POWERade points. That's what it's all about right now. It's definitely hardball out here, but we're not about to give up."
