Sitting Ninth, WJ Looks to Step Up on Saturday in Denver

Event: 24th annual Mile High Nationals
Location: Bandimere Speedway
       Morrison, CO
Day/Date: Friday July 18, 2003

Warren Johnson had a solid first day of qualifying at the Mile-High Nationals in Denver, CO. His best effort was a 7.265 second, 190.82 mph pass made during the evening session at Bandimere Speedway, placing the GM Performance Parts Grand Am ninth heading into Saturday's final two attempts. Although this performance would satisfy many of the 28 competitors attempting to make Sunday's final eliminations, Johnson and crew immediately got to work looking for ways to improve their standing.

"We certainly left ourselves room to improve. On the first run, we blew the tires off, while tonight it was lazy in low gear, locking the clutch up for no apparent reason. There was nothing wrong with the top speed, it just didn't cover the first sixty feet as fast as it should have. It's obviously a problem that we will we will have to fix for tomorrow, and get our GM Performance Parts Grand Am back at the top of the chart.*
