Amicus statement on Ford’s Halewood plant

London, July 18 -- Ford announced this afternoon to build the new generation Land Rover at their Halewood rather than the Solihull plant as of 2006.

Derek Simpson, General Secretary of Amicus, said:

"There is extreme shock and bitter disappointment at the plant in Solihull because of previous commitments by the company that Solihull would be the prime plant for the sourcing of new land rover models. This decision will result in the loss of 1,100 jobs at the plant. Amicus officers will be meeting with the Solihull joint shop stewards committee on Monday morning to decide on a response."
