IdleAire Wins 2003 'R&D 100' Award For Advanced Travel Center Electrification (ATE) System

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., July 17 -- IdleAire Technologies Corporation's Advanced Travel Center Electrification (ATE) system has been selected by R&D Magazine as "one of the 100 most technologically significant products introduced into the marketplace over the past year." An independent panel of 60 judges and the magazine's editors made the selections, considered the Oscars of the technology world.

IdleAire's ATE system allows long haul diesel truck drivers to turn off their engines while resting or waiting on loads instead of idling them to heat and cool the cab. The system significantly improves air quality, saves on fuel, maintenance and engine wear, and improves communications between fleets and drivers, and drivers and their families. It also provides new entertainment options, improves the drivers' lifestyle and resting environment, and creates new jobs wherever the system is deployed.

The system can be installed anywhere long-haul trucks congregate and idle. It provides heat and AC, a Pentium-class, color touch screen computer, 4-110V electrical outlets, telephone, high-speed Internet and E-mail, satellite television, movies on demand and interactive driver training.

At a site grand opening in Atlanta, Georgia, June 10, the company announced transition from the R&D phase to the national deployment phase. Then-EPA Administrator Christine Whitman delivered the keynote address and praised the system for its air quality and fuel conservation benefits.

Since Atlanta, IdleAire has opened a new site in Arkansas and is poised to open four additional sites in California this week. The company will begin construction on three sites in Texas this month. The company also has sites in New York and Tennessee.

"IdleAire's new system solves a decades-old idling problem," said SVP and co-founder David Everhart. "We know it will have a positive impact on the transportation industry, and will improve the lifestyle of every driver using the system. It's also good for the environment, good for travel center owners, good for fleet owners. It's good for everyone who wants to breathe cleaner air and travel on safer highways."

IdleAire is a private technology and engineering company dedicated to improving the working environment for long-haul truck drivers. The company's ATE technology offers a quiet, efficient, cost-effective alternative to extended engine idling. Corporate headquarters and an engineering/testing facility are in Knoxville, Tennessee.
