Delco Remy International Announces Three New Executive Appointments

ANDERSON, Ind., July 16 -- Delco Remy International's OE (Original Equipment) Business President Richard L. Stanley has named three executive leaders to new roles.

Paul J. Newport has been named the senior vice president of Global Operations for Delco Remy. In his new assignment, he is responsible for the direction and development of all Delco Remy OE operations globally. Current OE operation locations include the United States, Mexico, Korea, Brazil, India, Poland, Hungary and China. Newport will also oversee the ongoing implementation of the Operational Excellence processes including lean manufacturing activities and manufacturing engineering.

Commenting on Newport's appointment, Stanley stated, "Paul's proven track record, leadership skills and strong automotive background make him a natural choice to take on this key role at Delco Remy. As we continue to expand globally, this appointment is critical to our continued growth."

Newport holds a bachelors degree from Indiana State University and an MBA from Ball State University. He began his professional career with General Motors in 1969 as a lab technician at the Delco Remy Battery Division in Muncie. He advanced through several supervisory positions in Muncie before joining the Delco Remy Division in Anderson, Indiana, where he held a number of senior management positions of increasing responsibility, including superintendent assignments in quality and production control. When Delco Remy spun off of GM in 1994, Newport was responsible for production, control and logistics until 1997 when he was promoted to a director.

Tom Ruth advances from his assignment as managing director of Delco Remy Mexico to vice president of Latin America. As vice president, he will be responsible for all business and operational matters in the region. Ruth will continue to coordinate the cross-functional activities of Delco Remy in Latin America and Mexico to drive operational excellence and domestic sales.

In his new capacity, Ruth will report to Joe Plomin, senior vice president and general manager of heavy-duty industrial division. "As Delco Remy continues to grow in Latin America, Tom is perfectly positioned to direct the expansion of our OE product facilities and provide service for our customers in North America," said Plomin. As Delco Remy Mexico's managing director Ruth led the transformation of manufacturing in San Luis Potosi into a world-class operation. Ruth's tenure with Delco Remy has included plant management and engineering responsibilities in Anderson, Indiana, and Meridian, Mississippi. He is a graduate of the General Motors Institute with a degree in industrial engineering.

John Gladney has been named the vice president of OE Operations for Delco Remy Mexico. He previously served as the vice president of operations in Anderson, Indiana. Gladney has over 30 years of management experience in financial and manufacturing environments. He will be responsible for all Mexican OE Manufacturing Plants. Additionally, Gladney will oversee installation and start-up of Delco Remy's first North American automotive alternator manufacturing operation.

Gladney is a graduate of Southern University with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. He spent his early years as a plant controller, internal auditor and accounting supervisor for General Cable Company and Bendix Corporation, respectively. Later, he held several management positions with United Technologies. Gladney joined Delco Remy America in 1997 and held various plant manager assignments before he was named the vice president of Anderson operations 1998.

"These appointments are recognition of the outstanding leadership all of these individuals have demonstrated in their previous assignments," said Stanley. "Newport, Ruth and Gladney have considerable experience and we expect these assignments to strengthen our global pursuit of growth."
