Auto Club: Gas Prices Down From Last Month; Decline Continues Summertime Trend
LOS ANGELES--July 15, 2003--The average price of gasoline in Southern California fell again last month, continuing a trend that has characterized the summer of 2003 so far. The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Southern California is 3.8 cents lower than last month, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's monthly Fuel Gauge Report. The Southern California average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline is $1.763, down from $1.801 on June 17. The lowest average price in the state is Anaheim, where drivers can pump regular self-serve unleaded gasoline for $1.68. Blythe has the highest average price at $1.995. San Francisco Bay-area motorists now pay an average of $1.95, up from $1.88 in June.
Nationally, prices are up 1.4 cents since the June AAA survey and are now averaging $1.517 per gallon. South Carolina has the lowest state average at $1.382.
"Prices have been inching lower for most of the summer. The only exception was during the middle of June when there was a price spike caused by production problems at three Northern California refineries," said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. "There is ample supply of gasoline currently, and as long as there are no production interruptions, we would expect the price of gas to continue edging lower through the month of July."
