After a month long shake-out period the TACH tech crew today threw the switches that put The Auto Channel's new Super-Servers on-line.
After more than 7 years and trillions of hits and xera bits of data transferred, The Auto Channel’s old servers have now become the main components for a highly efficient back-up and redundant server system.
Rob Hoeft CTO of The Auto Channel for the past 6 years directed his team to build and install a server system that surpasses today’s industry norm and allows for easy updates in the future. Rob said that: “with TACH traffic continuing to grow, and the content team adding new automotive content on an hourly basis, it became apparent to us that we needed to upgrade our systems to better serve our audience today and make sure we can accommodate tomorrow’s huge audience of auto enthusiasts.”
Darren Embry, Chief Programmer who has been with TACH for over ten years, and is the architect of many of TACH’s programs and systems, had a real job on his hands…he had to make sure that all of the functionality and interfaces and links in the TACH library of more than 500,000 pages of text, 80,000 images and 11,000 audio and video files continued to work seamlessly when the massive site was transferred to its new Super-Servers.
Nick Elrod, TACH’s newest IT professional brought his vast experience in systems integration and implementation to the task.
All three played a direct role in the design and building of the new leading edge system.
Marc Rauch Exec VP and a principal in The Auto Channel added that “with new and exciting content delivery methods just over the horizon it is gratifying to know that our infrastructure will not be a limiting factor in our editorial and production team’s ability to continue to show the way as the leading publisher of automotive content on the web.”
Bob Gordon President and a principal in The Auto Channel said, “with so much content and our unique editorial philosophy it is important that our audience and advertisers don’t have their content requests bogged down in server doo…this will not be the case as our new servers are as fast as any in the world!”
