AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Gasoline Prices Show Slight Increase
HOUSTON--July 11, 2003--Gasoline prices in many major Texas cities rose slightly this week, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips. The statewide average price for a gallon of regular self-serve is $1.39 a gallon - no change for the past two weeks - but seven cents higher than last year's average of $1.32. Motorists in Dallas are paying the most for a gallon of gasoline - $1.41 a gallon - the same as last week. Fort Worth motorists are not far behind at $1.39 a gallon, two-tenths lower than last week's average. The least expensive fuel can still be found in Corpus Christi at $1.35 a gallon, although that's more than two pennies higher than the week before.
"An increase in demand for gasoline, fears about Tropical Storm Claudette and higher crude oil prices may soon push the statewide average price upward," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "For consumers, that translates into higher prices at the pump."
