Circuit City Simplifies Wireless Solutions

Verizon Wireless Service Added; T-Mobile Presence Expanded; In-store Activation Available

RICHMOND, Va., July 10 -- Circuit City Stores is making wireless easier with new interactive kiosks; in-store, online activation of newly purchased wireless phones; and selections from the nation's fastest growing wireless providers, Verizon Wireless, which is also the nation's largest provider, and T-Mobile USA.

"Circuit City is putting the customer first with its redesigned wireless department by offering the nation's top two wireless providers in net subscriber growth, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile, along with in-store, online activation beginning in early August," said Kim Maguire, executive vice president, chief merchandising officer at Circuit City. "Circuit City customers can learn about and select the right wireless solution for them; purchase a wireless handset and accessories; and walk out of the store talking on their new phone."

Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading provider of wireless communications, serves 33.3 million customers and delivers more wireless service than any U.S. carrier with the largest and most reliable wireless network, covering 97 of the top 100 U.S. markets. The company, which spends more than $4 billion annually on its nationwide CDMA network, was the first to introduce high-speed data access on the all-digital Express Network. Verizon Wireless offers a wide array of digital services that include America's Choice national calling plans, Family Share plans, TXT Messaging, MobileWeb Internet access as well as Get It Now(SM), the virtual shopping mall of services. With Get It Now, customers can download games, entertainment and productivity applications over the air onto their phone. Verizon Wireless customers can select from a wide array of handsets including the VX 6000 camera phone that lets customers snap a picture, add a TXT message and sound, and send a picture message to another Verizon Wireless customer. In addition customers will be able to purchase wireless air cards to stay connected wirelessly to office or home e-mail, company intranets or other enterprise applications at speeds of 40 to 60 kilobits per second on the Verizon Wireless Express Network. Verizon Wireless will be in more than 580 stores starting in early August.

T-Mobile USA, the nation's fastest growing major wireless carrier, operates the largest all-digital, high-speed GSM/GPRS voice and data network in the U.S. and provides service, via roaming, in more than 100 countries. As an innovation leader T-Mobile has defined the market for camera phones and visual messaging, and is known for introducing the widest range of unique wireless devices to customers. T-Mobile is pioneering WiFi wireless broadband Internet access through its T-Mobile HotSpot(R) service, available in more than 2,600 public locations across the country. This leadership is part of T-Mobile's GET MORE(R) customer promise -- providing customers with the best overall value in their wireless service with more minutes, more features and more service. Circuit City now sells T-Mobile products in more than 580 of its stores and will begin offering the T-Mobile HotSpot service this fall.

Circuit City's redesigned wireless department will feature interactive kiosks allowing customers to access detailed information about Verizon Wireless' and T-Mobile's networks, plans, handsets and accessories; and a dedicated staff of product specialists, trained and certified to sell Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile services.

"Buying a wireless plan that is right for you can be an overwhelming process since so many plans are available," said Maguire. "But, the interactive kiosks and certified product specialists can help Circuit City's customers choose the right plan for them as easily and quickly as possible."

The wireless department is being redesigned as part of the refixturing effort in approximately 200 stores. In those stores, as in new and relocated stores, the wireless department will be in the front of the store and will feature PDAs and wireless accessories -- providing a solution to consumers' wireless needs. Refixturing is complete in approximately 30 stores, with all refixturing scheduled for completion by the end of September.
