7-Eleven, Inc. Reports Total Merchandise Sales Rise 2.4 Percent; U.S. Same-Store Merchandise Sales Increase for 72nd Consecutive Month
DALLAS, July 10 -- 7-Eleven, Inc. today reported total sales for June 2003 of $943.6 million, an increase of 4.7 percent over the June 2002 total of $901.4 million. Total merchandise sales for June 2003 were $672.5 million, an increase of 2.4 percent over the June 2002 total of $656.5 million. U.S. same-store merchandise sales for June 2003 increased 0.7 percent, on top of a 2.4 percent increase in June 2002.
Gasoline sales for June 2003 were $271.1 million, a 10.7 percent increase compared to $244.9 million in the prior-year period. Average gallons sold per store increased 3.9 percent in June 2003 compared to the June 2002 result. The average retail price of gasoline for June 2003 was $1.53, compared to $1.44 in June 2002.
7-Eleven's U.S. sales for June were impacted by unseasonably cooler and rainier weather in several parts of the country. With a strong performance over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, 7-Eleven's U.S. same-store sales increase for the first week of July was approximately 4 percent. The company is focused on sustaining its solid multi-year sales performance by actively managing the product assortment at its stores as well as through the introduction of new products.
Year-to-Date Results
The following results compare year-to-date results through June 2003 to the same period last year:
-- U.S. same-store merchandise sales have increased 3.3 percent, on top of a 3.1 percent increase for 2002. -- Merchandise sales are $3.7 billion, an increase of 4.9 percent. -- Gasoline sales total $1.7 billion, an increase of 27.3 percent. -- Average gallons sold per store have increased 5.1 percent.
