AFL Brazil Honored for Strong Humanitarian Involvement

    ITAJUBA, Brazil & ALLEN PARK, Mich.--July 8, 2003--AFL Brazil was awarded the prestigious "Paul Harris Fellow" commendation from Rotary Club Itajuba-Oeste recently. This honor, named for the entity's founder, is the greatest commendation granted by Rotary International. It is granted to people, companies and institutions that have collaborated towards community and humanitarian projects of the Rotary International.
    AFL Brazil, which partnered with the Rotary Club Itajuba-Oeste on several projects, received the commendation for its support of PolioPlus, a worldwide campaign that promotes the purchase and free distribution of vaccines with the purpose of eradicating polio.
    Mrs. Laercio Caldeira of the Rotary Club presented the award to Jose Carlos Vieira, General Manager of AFL Brazil. In accepting the commendation he said, "In my name and the name of all AFL employees, I'm very proud to receive this special distinction from the Rotary. An Alcoa vision of social accountability and volunteer work is one of its strategic pillars in order to be the best company."
