Revolution Motorsports Lights Up The Roar On The Shore
Bobby Sak… class of the field, Hayner puts on (another) clinic

Cleveland – July 4, 2003 – Bobby Sak [#10 Revolution Motorsports
Corvette] and Stu Hayner [#2 Trenton Forging / GMAC Commercial Finance
Corvette] lit up Cleveland’s Burke Lakefront Airport for the 6th round
of the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup. In a brilliant
display of driving, character and dedication, the team of Revolution
Motorsports gave the Cleveland fans what they came for… pure road
racing excitement.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a display of driving skill and a
dominance of power like that in years,” said proud owner, Don Sak,
referring to the performance of both Revolution cars. “From drop of the
green flag, our guys were the class of the field.”

Hayner qualified third for the 100-mile feature but due to an engine
change after the morning warm-up, rules require that he start at the
back of the field. Bobby Sak qualified to start the #10 Corvette sixth.

When the green flag dropped both Sak and Hayner used the superwide
front stretch to horsepower their way through the field. Sak got
cleanly through the first turn with the front-runners and headed onto
the backstretch quickly dispensing of the #3 car [Gentilozzi] and the
#12 car [Lewis]. Meanwhile, Hayner threaded is way through a turn one
pile up at the back of the pack and after one lap picked up 9 positions.

Within a few more laps, Sak had the crowd on their feet as he motored
by the #64 [Miller] car to take second position. From that point and
for most of the afternoon, Sak tucked in and stayed in the mirrors of
the #7 car [Pruett] setting the pace of the race.

In his attempt to avoid the first turn mayhem, Hayner had sustained
damage to his right side door panel and officials ordered him to the
pits to remove it. By time the work was completed, the leaders were
coming around on the front stretch. Hayner was able to get out of the
pits and drop in behind the fourth place car, one lap down.

With fans on their feet, the show was all Revolution. They cheered on
the Rookie Sak’s brilliant display of control and patience. They roared
with fist pumps as Hayner systematically dispensed of the #3 and #64
cars. After passing his teammate, Sak, Hayner set out after the leader.
The #7 car wisely chose to yield to a charging Hayner. When the yellow
came out on lap 37, Hayner closed back up on the field for the 10 lap
charge to the finish.

The big disappointment of the race came after the restart when the #3
[Gentilozzi] car violated Trans Am Regulation #1.8.13 "UNJUSTIFIABLE
RISK."  Gentilozzi made a late corner dive on Sak going into turn 9 .
The two came together through the 9-10 chicane allowing cars behind
them to bunch up and cause yet more trouble as they headed into turn 1.
A pile up ensued spinning Sak and dropping him back to eighth.

Hayner ultimately made his charge back to the top five much to the
delight of the nearly packed Cleveland grandstands and the Revolution
Motorpsorts guests from GMAC Commercial Finance and PR Machine Works.

“I was really disappointed in the move by the #3 [Gentilozzi] car,”
said Sak. “You just expect more from a 3-time Champion. Ultimately, the
big losers were the fans. Jorge Diaz Jr. (Sak’s Rookie challenger) was
back in fourth. It could have been a great race and a great finish….
instead you end up with a race result artificially recreated by
officials handing out penalties. I don’t know… I thought I was the one
that was supposed to be making rookie mistakes.” [Gentilozzi went on to
finish second but was cited for two unsafe driving infractions and
penalized two positions.]

“I’m pleased that the officials made the right decision,” commented Don
Sak. “However, it’s a late call. We ran in second the entire race. The
penalty does nothing to restore our position. The race is over and the
fans are left with contrived race results. I would have liked the
infraction called when it happened and the penalty meted out
accordingly. Adding insult to injury, the penalty ultimately hurts our
position by moving other competitors up in points while we were the
victims of the infraction. It’s really a bit hard to swallow this one.
It’s not right.”

Hayner’s run was nothing short of brilliant. He started last, came from
a lap down and finished 5th. In the process, he consistently clipped
off some of the fastest laps of the race.

“It was a pretty physical race,” said Hayner. “I’m not sure what
happened to the door. We came in, and went a lap down. But the crew had
the car dialed in. I really thought we had the best car on the track.
One thing is for sure… we really drove the doors off it!”

“I can’t say enough about Shane and Shail Duhaime, the team, Bobby Sak
and his performance, Don Sak and our sponsors, Trenton Forging, GMAC
Commercial Finance and PR Machine Works,” added Hayner. “They never
gave up… we’re working our way back up in the points and we’re doing it
against every bit of bad luck you can think of. No one is even thinking
of giving up. No one.”

“Look,” Hayner continued, “everyone knows the Corvette is at a
disadvantage this year. We’re tired of everyone on this side of paddock
wall pretending it isn’t. We know and knowledgeable fans know. What you
saw today is a team that is determined to put up a fight regardless of
stacked odds. We just don’t care. We come to race. Win lose or draw you
will know we were on that track. You are going to have to beat us.”

The Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup was at Cleveland’s
