PRUETT FASTEST IN CLEVELAND FINAL PRACTICE
ICLEVELAND ‹ After earning the pole Thursday for Friday¹s Trans-Am on the
Tarmac, Round 6 of the 2003 Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich® Tires Cup,
Scott Pruett predicted the Burke Lakefront Airport temporary course would
only get faster. Pruett backed up his words by setting the fastest time of
the weekend in his No. 7 Jaguar R Performance XKR during final practice late
Friday morning.
Pruett backed up his qualifying time (1:13.145/103.652 miles per hour)
Friday, by touring the 2.106-mile airport circuit in one minute, and 12.836
seconds at an average speed of 104.091 mph. Rookie Bobby Sak was second
fastest in the No. 10 Revolution Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette, ahead of
Tomy Drissi (No. 5 League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Movie Jaguar XKR),
Johnny Miller (No. 64 Eaton Cutler-Hammer Jaguar XKR) and Michael Lewis (No.
12 Westward Tools/The Crank Jaguar XKR).
³We ran a little quicker, and we¹re working on race trim,² said Pruett.
³We¹re working on old tires, trying to get the race setup right. We used
50-mile tires and went on from there.
³We¹ll make a few changes prior to the race,² added Pruett. ³But we¹re
ready.²
The Trans-Am on the Tarmac, part of the US Bank Presents the Cleveland Grand
Prix, is scheduled for Friday, July 4, at 5:40 p.m. The race will air on a
tape-delayed basis on SPEED Channel, on Sunday, July 6 at 3:30 p.m. The
Trans-Am Series is America¹s oldest continuously running road racing series
and is celebrating its 38th anniversary this year.
