STRANA Announces Changes to 2003 Schedule

   
       COLUMBUS, Ohio (July 3, 2003) – The Super Truck Racing Association of
North America (STRANA) announces the following changes to its 2003 schedule:
          The first of three Tonka 2003 Super Truck Celebrity Challenge events will
          begin at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ont. on Aug. 15-17,
          instead of Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. on July 25-27.
          Road Atlanta has been added as the site of a third and final Tonka 2003 Super
          Truck Celebrity Challenge event on Oct. 15-17, following Mosport and a
          second event at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisc. on Aug. 22-24.
          The Sonoma event will involve STRANA driver Mike Ryan performing high-
          speed laps in his super truck over the famed road course all three days in
          conjunction with the popular American Le Mans Series event. This event will
          set up the three Celebrity Challenge events.
       The schedule change gives STRANA additional time to complete production and
testing of race trucks to be used for the “Celebrity Challenge” events. STRANA race
trucks are currently in production at Élan Motorsports Technologies in Braselton, GA.
       “We are very disappointed that we won’t have STRANA race trucks ready to run
at Infineon because we’re so excited for our fans to see these very unique machines
actually race,” said STRANA Executive Director Brian Till. “To use a metaphor our
friends in Sonoma will surely understand: We will serve no wine before its time.
       “Too much time and energy has been put into developing this series not to do it
right, and we believe people will respect that in the long run,” he said.
       Additionally, beginning the “Celebrity Challenge” events at Mosport is very
apropos, given the fact that STRANA conducted its first demonstration event there last
year, said Till.
       “The support and enthusiasm for super truck racing by our Canadian friends has
been nothing less than overwhelming,” he said.
       Adding Road Atlanta to the schedule is significant because of the popularity of
the annual Petit Le Mans event which headlines weekend events there.
       “Petit Le Mans is always a fan favorite, and it will give STRANA, the Tonka
Super Truck Racing Series, and all of our sponsors and suppliers great exposure,” said
Till.
       The Tonka 2003 Super Truck Celebrity Challenge will showcase superstars of
road racing competing in STRANA trucks for charity. The races – which will be taped
for broadcast on ESPN2 – are sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association
(IMSA) and will run in support of the popular American Le Mans Series.
