Toyota Reports Strong June Sales: Sets Second-Quarter and First-Half Sales Records
TORRANCE, Calif., July 1 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported its best-ever first-half sales in 46 years of business in the U.S. with calendar-year-to-date (CYTD) sales of 903,142, up 3.5 percent, topping last year's record first-half. Toyota also posted its best-ever second-quarter with sales of 494,049 units. Toyota recorded strong June sales of 155,501, an increase of 10.9 percent over the same period last year.

"Steady sales from a fresh line-up of new products have helped us avoid massive incentive programs," said Jim Press, TMS executive vice president and COO. "We remain optimistic that strong first-half sales will serve as a catalyst for a strong finish."
The Toyota Division CYTD sales stand at 784,886, up 3.8 percent. Toyota Division June sales totaled 134,550, an increase of 10.8 percent.
The all-new Sienna van posted best-ever June sales of 10,484, an increase of 46.9 percent. The Highlander mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) also enjoyed its best-ever June with sales of 9,561, up 13.2 percent. The redesigned 4Runner mid-size SUV posted strong monthly sales of 8,775, an increase of 39.1 percent. Based on a daily selling rate, sales of Tacoma pickup trucks increased 2.2 percent over last June and the Tundra full-size pickup rose 5.2 percent. Sales of the Land Cruiser full-size SUV also rose 1.9 percent, based on a daily selling rate.
Toyota passenger cars were led by the Camry with 33,786, units sold, up 0.3 percent based on a daily selling rate. The Corolla continued its sales roll with 28,596 units sold, an increase of 37.1 percent. The Echo subcompact sedan enjoyed sales of 3,691, up 48.9 percent.
Scion, the new car marque from TMS that launched June 9 in California only, closed out the month with a total of 1,351 units sold. The Scion xB caught buyers' eyes with its sharp edges and posted sales of 900 units. The xA, the muscular subcompact five-door, enjoyed sales of 451 units.
"Gen Y is a tremendous force in the marketplace and will eventually rival the Boomers for dominance," said Jim Farley, vice president of Scion. "Both Scion products and the sales process are off to a good start, attracting buyers with a median age of 33 years-old, approximately 60 percent of whom are first time Toyota buyers."
The Lexus Division posted a best-ever June with sales of 20,951 vehicles, an increase of 11.7 percent. First-half Lexus sales totaled 118,256, up 1.5 percent.
The Lexus Division's record-setting June was led by best-ever June SUV sales of 10,351, an increase of 64.8 percent. The redesigned RX 330 luxury SUV led the Lexus sales charge with best-ever June sales of 7,369, up 30.8 percent. The all-new GX 470 SUV continued to post strong sales with 2,371 units sold.
Sales of North American-built vehicles accounted for 61.1 percent of total June sales. There were 24 selling days this month compared to 26 last June.
