Torvec Completes Transmission; Schedules EPA Certification Training
ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 30 -- Torvec, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: TOVC.OB) announced today that it has completed the installation and stationary testing of its infinitely variable transmission (IVT) in its Dodge Ram 4x4 quad cab pick-up truck, in accordance with its previously announced schedule. During the month of June, data acquisition systems were upgraded and the IVT was equipped with 28 internal sensors to monitor lubrication, heat, oil pressure, RPB, etc. A built-in computer provides a steady stream of data immediately upon ignition.
Torvec has retained Clean Air Technologies in Buffalo, N.Y., one of three nationwide companies whose certifications are acceptable to the EPA, to schedule real-world fuel efficiency and emissions testing within 10 days to two weeks.
Torvec has granted a major auto manufacturer (OEM) a first "look-see" of the operating transmission and all accumulated test results, including the data certified by Clean Air Technologies. Torvec, therefore, will not publicly announce any test results until its obligations to the OEM have, in Torvec's judgment, been satisfied.
While increased fuel mileage and reduced emissions have been touted as the prime benefits of the IVT, auto manufacturers have expressed excitement at the potential production cost-savings, estimated to be in the billions annually.
These potential savings primarily are the result of three factors: * Interchangeability -- Torvec's IVT will replace current transmissions, whether in passenger cars, SUVs or light trucks, without the need to reconfigure engine or body design * High-Volume design -- Torvec's IVT is not composed of exotic metals or parts and, in fact, eliminates numerous costly and inefficient parts, such as the torque converter * Less parts -- Torvec's IVT has fewer parts than existing transmissions. For example, a typical six-speed automatic transmission used in an SUV has 720 parts; Torvec's IVT has 260 for the same vehicle. A typical four-speed transmission for passenger cars has 430 parts-Torvec's has 180 for the same vehicle
On Thursday, July 3, Torvec's directors, officers, and team members will gather around the Dodge Ram to celebrate Vernon Gleasman's 91st birthday and the birth of the IVT. Torvec shareholders are invited to share their enthusiasm by honking at the sight of the black Dodge Ram, imprinted with Torvec's dragon insignia, as it travels throughout Rochester and Monroe county over the next several weeks.
Torvec, Inc. specializes in automotive and related technology.
