Grammer's Automotive Division Drives Parent Company's First Quarter Growth

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--June 30, 2003--Grammer AG of Amberg, Germany posted overall group sales growth of nine percent in the first quarter of 2003, primarily as a result of its Automotive division, which showed a sales increase of eight percent worldwide, to $160.5 million.
Grammer Automotive was recently awarded two important contracts. For the new BMW 5 Series, Grammer will supply armrests for all doors, rear-seat armrests and all headrests, as well as an optional active head restraint system, which protects the occupant from whiplash injuries in a rear-end collision.
Also being introduced on the 5 Series is innovative polyurethane (PU) "skin" molding process developed by Grammer, which produces a polyurethane surface perfectly suited to vehicle interiors. It is being used on the door armrests and the front center console. The high-grade PU skin is flexible, very durable, and textured for superior feel.
Grammer Automotive also will completely manage development of a front center console system with an integrated armrest for the new Volkswagen Passat. As system leader for the project, Grammer will build two new facilities in Germany to guarantee just-in-time delivery to nearby VW plants in Mosel, Saxony and Emden, Lower Saxony.
Grammer AG is a worldwide leader in the innovative development and manufacture of automotive interior specialty systems. Wherever people are on the road, Grammer products provide safety, comfort and convenience. Grammer's Automotive division delivers headrests, armrests, center consoles and integrated child safety seats to automotive manufacturers and interior systems suppliers.
