Delphi Receives National Safety Council Recognition For Health and Safety Excellence
TROY, Mich., June 30 -- Delphi Corp. plants have been recognized with 69 awards for their health and safety excellence in 2002 by the National Safety Council (NSC) for excelling in the areas of lost work day injuries, perfect records, and continuous improvements.

Delphi facilities received recognition in the following areas:
* Level I: The Green Cross for Safety Excellence Achievement Award: 33 Delphi facilities received this award for overall health and safety excellence.
* Perfect Record Award: 14 Delphi facilities received this award for no lost workday cases for a full calendar year.
* Safety Leadership Award: Delphi's Energy & Chassis Systems facility in Laurel, Miss., received this award for achieving more than five consecutive "Perfect Record" years.
* Recognition of Significant Improvement Award: 21 Delphi facilities received this award for demonstrating a minimum of 20% reduction of lost workday cases.
Since Delphi became an independent company in 1999, the company has seen a 73 percent improvement in lost workday case rates and a 72 percent reduction in total recordable case rates.
Delphi is heavily involved in health and safety efforts and has received numerous recognitions for its practices. Those initiatives and recognition include the following:
* Delphi was named one of "America's Safety Companies" by Occupational Hazards magazine in 2002.
* Delphi was one of the first companies to endorse the National Safety Council's Safety and Health Code of Ethics in 2002.
* Delphi and the UAW teamed up to start a scholarship fund for students pursuing a career in health and safety in 2002.
* Delphi Vice President Operations and Logistics, Mark Lorenz, serves as a member-at-large on the National Safety Council's Board of Directors; and Karl Bossung, Delphi director Health and Safety, was elected to serve as a member-at-large advisor for another two year term on the Board of Delegates for the 2003-2005 term.
* Delphi sponsored the National Safety Council's Government Day 2003 in Washington D.C. on June 10, to provide NSC leaders an opportunity to discuss safety issues at the national level with the members of the U.S. Senate and Congress.
