Ejasent Ships 'Optimizer' for Server Consolidation; Optimization Software Dynamically Finds Lowest-Cost Consolidation Scenarios

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--June 30, 2003--Ejasent Inc., the leading provider of utility computing solutions for today's data centers, announced today the availability of Optimizer, a new software product designed specifically for the task of analyzing and optimizing data center server consolidation scenarios.
A recent Gartner study found that 81% of IT managers found significant cost reductions by consolidating their data center assets. Ejasent's Optimizer analyzes data center application performance and utilization profiles and maps them to a target server environment to achieve the lowest cost consolidation schedule while maintaining user-specified levels of performance.
Ejasent's Optimizer is the only software on the market today that rapidly generates consolidation schedules across complex, heterogeneous data centers. Companies using Optimizer have forecasted data center cost savings of as much as 50%, resulting in 500% - 700% ROI and as little as 3-4 months payback on their Optimizer purchase.
"Consolidation and standardization of IT infrastructure is one of the top five priorities among enterprises that outsource," says Bruce Caldwell, principal analyst in outsourcing services at Gartner. "The demand to cut costs, starting with increased efficiencies in the IT infrastructure through consolidation, has led to more than $20 billion in major outsourcing contracts over the past year and a half," he adds. "Software tools that help automate the consolidation and standardization process and shorten the time needed to achieve cost reductions, are critical for both outsourcers and enterprises that seek to optimize the IT infrastructure," notes Caldwell.
Ejasent's Optimizer is a stand-alone software application that is available now and can monitor and analyze an unlimited number of servers for consolidation.

    How Optimizer Works

Optimizer leverages integer programming techniques to analyze application utilization patterns and generate different scenarios for server consolidation across the entire enterprise infrastructure, or across just a subset. Multiple consolidation scenarios can be generated and sensitivity analysis done - within just minutes - to develop an optimization plan that prioritizes how the enterprise should execute its infrastructure consolidation initiatives.

    MicroMeasure Integration

Optimizer can analyze data and optimize consolidation scenarios using any existing measurement data. Moreover, Optimizer integrates with Ejasent's own industry-leading MicroMeasure application - which meters, rates and presents usage data for any device in the data center, and applies financial cost information - to provide a complete server consolidation solution.
