SCELZI PUTS TWO GOOD RUNS TOGETHER TO QUALIFY NO. 5 ON FRIDAY

MADISON, Ill. (June 27, 2003) - Gary Scelzi put two good runs together today
in his Oakley Time Bomb Dodge Stratus R/T Funny Car, to qualify No. 5 in
tonight's second session with a 4.913/316.01 mph pass, establishing the
second fastest speed of the day. In the first session he went straight down
the track to a 5.142/288.15 pass.

"Today in the first round we went 5.14," he said. "It went right down the
race track. That was great, with the sun on the race track. That's probably
how first round is going to be on Sunday, so that was OK. It put a hole out
way down the race track. We're not unhappy with that at all. We came back,
made a few changes, stepped it up, ended up No. 5, at 316.01 mph. We're
happier than heck about that. The Oakley Dodge did it again: two qualifying
runs, two laps to the finish line, you pull the parachutes. That's what
you've got to do on Sunday. We'll see if the plan comes together this time."
