Young Star Sorenson Continues Edging Away From ASA
Rookies
Pendleton, Ind. (June 25, 2003) – Producing his second podium finish in the
last three ASA Racing Series events and second consecutive pole position,
$50,000 Rookie Candidate Reed Sorenson is edging away from his fellow
freshman competitors. Sorenson finished in the third spot at Mansfield
Motorsports Speedway in the inaugural Ohio 250, extending his points lead to
121 markers over Florida sensation Travis Kittleson.
Kittleson battled for race leadership honors with current point’s leader Kevin
Cywinski in the later stages of the event at Mansfield, but after contact with
Ohio’s Robbie Pyle, the No. 30 Bob Steele Chevrolet finished fourth. Kittleson
has collected four top-five finishes in eighth events including a second-place
performance at Concord Motorsport Park in April.
Illinois competitor Boris Jurkovic finished a disappointing 32nd, after being
involved in an accident on the 36th circuit at Mansfield. Jurkovic scored a career
best seventh at Concord Motorsport Park in the BFGoodrich Tires 250 and
followed that up with a top-15 finish at Lanier. Driving the No. 66 Reliable
Recovery Chevrolet for Phil Hines Racing, Jurkovic continues to rank third in the
Rookie standings.
Davin Scites, driver of the No. 06 John Michael Montgomery Chevrolet is fourth
in the rookie points after finishing 15th at the .50-mile oval in Central Ohio. Scites
recorded the biggest victory of his career at Concord in April, passing series
veteran Mike Garvey on the final lap of the event. Scites has two top-10 finishes
in the opening eight races.
The ninth event of the 2003 ASA Racing Series is set for Saturday, June 28 at
Indianapolis Raceway Park in Clermont, Ind. The Club 200 Presented by
BFGoodrich Tires takes the green flag at 8 p.m. (Local) and will be telecast live
on SPEED Channel.
