BOSTON--June 27, 2003--Design Continuum Inc., Design Continuum Srl., and their clients today were awarded three Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) in a competition co-sponsored by BusinessWeek and the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA.) IDEA awards recognize five areas of industrial design excellence: design innovation, benefit to the user, benefit to the business, ecological responsibility, and appropriate aesthetics and appeal. The winning projects are highlighted in a special issue of BusinessWeek on newsstands June 27.
Design Continuum received awards for two outstanding pieces of client work as well as an ongoing design research program that it sponsors at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York:

-- Polaroid Mio: Silver Award Winner

The Polaroid Mio from Polaroid Corporation is designed to fit between the Polaroid iZone and larger format Polaroid cameras, for both camera size and picture size. It is a simple, 'one button' camera, and is specifically designed to appeal to younger consumers with active lifestyles.

-- Campingaz Azzuro: Bronze Award Winner

The Campingaz Azzuro is designed to provide consumers with an expanded grill experience. Campingaz had developed a unique lighting chamber concept, and the Azzuro became the first charcoal barbecue to allow both vertical rotisserie-cooking as well as horizontal grilling.

-- Syracuse Synergy Project: Bronze Award Winner

Recognizing a gap in strategy-based undergraduate design curricula in the US, Syracuse University's Synergy Project's long-term objective was to invent a fundamentally new curriculum for tomorrow's leaders to experience and embrace holistic, multidisciplinary design. Synergy is based on the concept that the best solutions are generated through the collaboration of people from a wide range of professional disciplines.
