Kansas City Royals 'TEAM' Up with Highway Safety Partners to Ensure Safety at the Ballpark and on Area Roadways this 4th of July Holiday Season

       Fourth of July is Traditionally Deadly Time on the Highways

  WHAT:     Regional Launch of "You Drink & You Drive. You Lose." national
            crackdown on impaired driving campaign in which law enforcement
            agencies step up their efforts to deter drunk driving.  As the
            4th of July holiday approaches and the Kansas City Royals play
            host to the Detroit Tigers at Kauffman Stadium this weekend,
            safety officials have joined forces to get the word out to fans
            about the importance of responsible drinking and always
            designating a sober driver.

  WHY:      Approximately 17,448 people were killed and over 500,000 were
            injured as a result of impaired driving in 2001.  Males between
            the ages of 21-34 are the population identified by NHTSA as most
            at risk to drive drunk and many baseball fans fit this age
            group.  Kauffman Stadium has a captive audience of more than
            40,000 fans.

TEAM's membership includes Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, National Football League, National Hockey League, ARAMARK, Beer Institute, Anheuser-Busch Companies, Miller Brewing Company, Coors Brewing Company, National Association of Broadcasters, International Association of Assembly Managers, and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
