Timken and Stanadyne Form Global Automotive Engine Products Alliance
CANTON, Ohio, June 25 -- Timken and Stanadyne Precision Engine Products Corporation, a subsidiary of Stanadyne Corporation, have agreed to jointly develop and market advanced components for the rapidly expanding automotive engine valve train market worldwide. The annual global market for these products is estimated to be approximately $700 million.

The alliance will link Stanadyne's Precision Engine Products Corp. subsidiary and the automotive powertrain group of Timken U.S. Corporation, a Timken subsidiary. Under the terms of the agreement, Timken will design and manufacture roller finger followers for integration with hydraulic lash adjusters developed and produced by Stanadyne. These products are key mating components of valve train systems.

The alliance will build on the respective strengths of Stanadyne and Timken in engine product technology, geographic coverage and customer base. Each company will contribute engineering and manufacturing expertise in its specific product and application competencies. The parties will coordinate joint development programs and bring together the technology to produce cost- effective products that will deliver significant valve train system value.
Precision Engine Products and Timken are major manufacturers of valve train components serving the worldwide automotive original equipment and replacement markets. Their combined experience will allow the alliance to offer their customers uniquely engineered products and innovative solutions. Examples include advanced materials and processing technology, as well as component design features that facilitate handling and assembly.

The valve train is the primary engine system that controls fuel and air intake and exhaust to provide exact timing for the combustion cycle. Valve train components have a critical impact on engine performance, emissions, durability and fuel economy. Hydraulic lash adjusters eliminate any system clearance to maintain precision contact tolerances. Roller finger followers reduce friction at the key interface that translates camshaft motion to the valves.
