Delphi Announces New $12 Million Investment on Advanced Fuel Injectors

SHANGHAI, China, June 25 -- Delphi Corporation , the world's largest and most diversified automotive components supplier announced today in Shanghai that it would invest $12 million to introduce advanced Multec 3 gasoline fuel injectors. The injectors will be produced at Delphi Shanghai Dynamic and Propulsion Systems Co. Ltd., a wholly-owned operation located in Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone in Pudong, Shanghai, for customers in Asia Pacific.

The fuel injector is the core component of a vehicle's engine management system (EMS). Delphi's advanced Multec 3 injector features the latest technology, which offers improved performance at lower cost. It was recently launched in the US and European markets last year.

William Pfarrer, general manager of Delphi Shanghai Dynamic and Propulsion Systems Co. Ltd., says the move will enable Delphi China to upgrade technology in the quickly developing Chinese automotive industry. "Our customers need world-class technologies to differentiate their vehicles in this competitive market. Delphi is eager to bring its expertise, leadership and advanced technologies to China," said Pfarrer.

Five production lines will be added to the current facility and initial production will begin this September. To accommodate manufacturing, a special production clean room of more than 1,100 square meters is under construction. This clean room is fully equipped to precisely control environment temperature, humidity and air borne particulates.

"Delphi is the only supplier in China which can provide complete engine management systems, including converters, wiring and electronic control modules through our China operations. Delphi supplies engine management systems for all mini-van makers and many additional applications and OEMs in China. The new production line adds advanced gasoline fuel injectors to the China product portfolio, which already includes oxygen sensors, throttle bodies and pressure regulators, further accelerating the localization process," said Dr. Yudong Chen, chief engineer of Greater China operation of Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems and Steering Systems.

The need for engine management systems has dramatically grown following the Chinese government's increased attention to environmental protection. Last year, Delphi's total divisional sales revenue grew more than 60% compared with 2001.

Delphi Shanghai Dynamic and Propulsion Systems Co., Ltd. was established in 1997, producing chassis, steering and engine systems and components. All of Delphi's facilities in China are ISO9000/QS9000 certified.
