ROLEX SERIES POINTS RACE HEATS UP AT
MID-OHIO ROAD RACING CLASSIC
DUBLIN, Ohio (June 24, 2003) - With Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington,
Ohio, hosting round 7 of the 12-round Rolex Sports Car Series, competitors
know that they are nearing the stretch run of the season. With that
knowledge comes the pressure of knowing that every point matters from here
on out, beginning with the Mid-Ohio Road Racing Classic, June 27-29.
After scoring their second straight win of the season last Sunday, Red Bull
drivers David Donohue and Mike Borkowski jumped to within four points of
Daytona Prototype points leaders Hurley Haywood and J.C. France in the
latest Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series point standings. The Red Bull
pair previously trailed their Brumos Racing teammates by 13 points.
In the GTS driver standings, Joao Barbosa saw his points lead greatly
reduced after a fifth-place finish in the class last weekend. That, coupled
with Tommy Riggins and Dave Machavern's second-straight win, cut the Mosler
driver's lead from 17 points to eight.
Ferrari drivers Cort Wagner and Brent Martini maintained their lead in the
GT driver standings after a second-place finish at Watkins Glen. The pair
increased their advantage over Marcus Motorsports drivers Brian Cunningham
and High Plumb by two points and now lead the BMW drivers by six points.
The Rolex Series race during the Mid-Ohio Road Racing Classic will be a
2-hour, 45-minute timed race. The green flag will wave at 6:00 p.m. on
Saturday, June 28.
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is located approximately halfway between Columbus
and Cleveland, off Interstate 71. Commonly referred to as the "Most
Competitive in the U.S.," Mid-Ohio hosts six motorsports events throughout
the summer, beginning with the Sprint Vintage Grand Prix and including the
Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire, July 25-27, and the
Valvoline Runoffs, September 15-21. For event information and tickets, call
