Hermie Sadler heads up stellar field of ARCA entrants at South Boston as Virginia native returns home to legendary short-track 

 

SOUTH BOSTON VA (6-23-03) Hermie Sadler's heading home. If not for South Boston Speedway's famous fried bologna burgers, for the chance to compete against the best of the best in the ARCA RE/MAX Series in his home state of Virginia. The former South Boston Speedway Late Model stock car standout has entered the July 2nd Big Daddy's Liberty 200 ARCA RE/MAX Series race at renowned short-track. 

 

Sadler, the 1993 NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year, will be competing at South Boston in a Chevrolet sponsored by S&M Brands, makers of the popular Bailey's cigarettes, who have been strong supporters of short track racing across the southeast.

 

"This is very exciting for me," said Sadler, a resident of Emporia, Virginia. "To be able to return to my home track and carry the Bailey's colors that are so familiar to race fans in this area is a tremendous honor. I look forward to putting on a great show for everyone."

Sadler, who finished second at Michigan Int'l Speedway in his career-first RE/MAX Series start in mid-June of this year, will be up against a stellar field of entrants including defending race winner and Winston Cup veteran Ken Schrader as well as four-time series champion and current point leader Frank Kimmel. Kimmel finished second in last year's South Boston short-track classic on the heels of Schrader.

 

Additional entrants include third-generation drivers' Jason Jarrett and Billy Venturini. Venturini, driving for his father and two-time ARCA national champion Bill Venturini, finished 3rd there last year tying his career-best RE/MAX Series finish. 

 

Matthew Carter, son of longtime Winston Cup team owner Travis Carter, is also entered making his career-first RE/MAX Series attempt. David Ragan, 17-year-old son of Winston Cup/ARCA veteran Ken Ragan, will also be making his career-first RE/MAX Series attempt. Seventeen-year-old Shelby Howard, who became ARCA's youngest winner in history earlier this year with victories at Salem Speedway and Kansas Speedway, is also entered. 

 

Other entrants include Paul Menard, son of renowned Indy car owner John Menard, leading ARCA Rookie of the year candidate Christi Passmore as well as ARCA veterans' Mark Gibson, Ron Cox, Andy Belmont, Norm Benning, Brent Sherman, Mike Buckley, Chuck Weber and Todd Bowsher. Bowsher is the son of three-time ARCA national champion Jack Bowsher.

 

The Wednesday night race, scheduled to roll off at 7:30 eastern, will also be televised on The Outdoor Channel on Sunday, July 13 from 4-6 pm eastern.
