Rowe wins in ARCA Trucks at Adirondack
By Amanda Brahler
NEW BREMEN NY (6-21-03) - After having over a month off due to a rain-out May 31st at Lake Erie Speedway, the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series brought the mountains at Adirondack Int'l Speedway an echo of roaring engines.
With just 20 laps remaining in the Qualite Sports Lighting 100, Brian Rowe, in AJ Pate's Manning's USA-Hall Electronics #5 Ford Ranger, passed two-time ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck champ Robbin Slaughter to grab the win. It was his career-first ARCA Truck Series triumph.
Slaughter lost the lead to Rowe in turn one when the two came up on a lapped truck. Rowe led the remainder of the event from lap 81 to the checkered on lap 100.
Slaughter's #6 Carmensvacuum.com Ford started on the outside pole alongside Old Milwaukee pole winner Ron Wells. Wells won the pole in 17.680 seconds around the D-shaped track. However, Wells was unable to hold the top-spot as Slaughter quickly jumped out front to lead. It would be a lead that Slaughter fought to keep most of the way with Rowe keeping up the continual pressure. Slaughter, who also picked up the Cloyes Gear Halfway Leader award, held on for second ahead of defending Lincoln Welders Truck Series champion Chad Guinn who fought back mechanical difficulties to finish third.
The 100-lap event saw a total of four caution flags all for minor incidents, one of which worked into the hands of Guinn whose engine developed a miss early on. Guinn, who started fourth in the BFI-M&M Heating-Northland Collision-Coastal Coating Ford, was able to make repairs during the first caution period on lap 44 that flew for debris. From there, Guinn, who had to go to the tail-end, put on a quite a show when he charged back through the field while Rowe continued to pressure Slaughter.
Toledo, Ohio's John Kasmierski started 12th in his own Carpenter's Local 1138 Ford and finished fourth earning the Ed & Company Hard Charger award for advancing the most positions. Kevin Reeb, in the Accurate Logistics Ford, completed the top-five finishers.
Paul Hahn was sixth followed by 99 ARCA Truck champ Bill Withers in seventh. Last year's Rookie of the Year Brandon Knupp finished eighth. Mark Otting and Wells finished ninth an tenth respectively.
The next action for the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series will be the Livernois Motorsports 100 at Flat Rock Speedway on Saturday, June 28.
