HOMETOWN HERO SCOTT PRUETT FAST IN FIRST ROUND PRACTICE

SONOMA, Calif. ‹ Scott Pruett gave his hometown crowd something to cheer
about as the Roseville, Calif. native topped first-round practice for the
Trans-Am 100, Round 5 of the 2003 Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich® Tires
Cup championship, Friday evening at Infineon Raceway. Pruett, driver of the
No. 7 Jaguar R Performance XKR, ripped off a one minute, 14.666-second lap
at 94.887 miles per hour at the 1.949-mile road course.

Johnny Miller was second fastest in the No. 64 Eaton Cutler-Hammer Jaguar,
ahead of Boris Said (No. 33 ACS/GE Access/Sun Microsystems Ford Mustang),
Tomy Drissi (No. 5 League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Jaguar XKR) and Michael
Lewis (No. 12 Westward Tools/The Crank Jaguar XKR).

³We ran high-mileage tires,² said the two-time Trans-Am Series Drivers¹
Champion. ³We focused on race setup and tomorrow we plan to concentrate on
qualifying. We were a little disappointed with the car when it came off the
trailer, but we kept adjusting. It should be okay for qualifying.²

³I¹m looking forward to the race,² added Pruett, who qualified for the
Winston Cup Series race earlier in the day. ³We look forward to a good
finish and hope to re-take the points lead.²

Miller, who also qualified for the Winston Cup race and will make his NASCAR
debut Sunday, was happy to get back into his Trans-Am Series Jaguar. Miller
will enter qualifying tomorrow with a two-point lead in the championship.

³We finally ended up with a good, clean lap and we¹re just a tenth of
Scott¹s time, so that¹s good,² said Miller. ³The was pretty good. We have a
little adjusting to do, but we were quick and we¹ll be quicker. We¹ll be in
the hunt for this thing.²

Said, who set a Winston Cup qualifying record in earning the pole for
Sunday¹s NASCAR event, was equally pleased with his Trans-Am Series effort.

³This was a big day for me,² said Said. ³To get a Winston Cup pole and
secure a spot in the Budweiser Shootout is really big for me. I was on such
a high in the practice session. My car was really good. We were quickest for
a while, and then we parked it. I think we¹ll do really well in the race.²

Pruett¹s time was nearly two seconds quicker than the Winston Cup pole time
set by Said earlier in the day. Interestingly, in fact, the top-nine cars in
practice were all faster than the Winston Cup pole speed.

The Trans-Am 100, part of Infineon Raceway¹s NASCAR weekend, is scheduled to
start at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, following the Winston Cup Series
race. The race will air, on tape-delayed basis, on the PEE Channel, on
Friday, June 27.
