Legal street race in Barrie!
Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels
takes its show to the Pepsi Grand Prix of Barrie presented by Pfaff Porsche
TORONTO, ONTARIO - There will be some legal street racing this weekend in
Barrie, as the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship (SRFKC) presented by
Toronto Star Wheels will visit the picturesque street circuit for the first
time to contest the The Pepsi Grand Prix of Barrie presented by Pfaff Porsche.
In Formula Senior, the driver to watch will be Pfaff Porsche Birel driver
Mike Roth. Roth won at Mosport and was second in round three, and this
weekend his sponsor Pfaff Porsche is the presenting sponsor.
"I am ready to go," Roth said. "I like the layout of the track, and
hopefully I can get the Pfaff Porsche Birel in victory lane on Sunday."
Barrie is the hometown of some of the other drivers, like Brad Leliever and
Matt Stovold. Leliever won round three in his Barrie Honda/Mr.Sub Rotax and
will be looking to impress in front of his Barrie based sponsors.
"We dodged one bullet already this weekend," Leliever said. "Originally we
had a Pro Formula Vee race in Mt-Tremblant scheduled for this weekend - but
we were coming here. Luckily the Vee race was cancelled early this week, so
I won't have to play catch up in that series. Barrie Honda has been a long
time sponsor of mine and now I get to race in their backyard. I am hoping
things go well in Rotax and Formula Senior."
On Saturday, the Pepsi Grand Prix will feature the OKDG (Ontario KartSport
Development Group) classes along with Formula Junior, the first of the
SRFKC classes to run on the weekend. In Formula Junior, Paul Tracy Kart
(PTK) driver, Guelph's Robert Wickens will be looking to keep his perfect
season alive. Wickens has gone four for four so far this year, and two wins
here would all but clinch the championship for him. Heading up the likely
contenders to upset Wickens are Quebec CRG driver Jesse Labbe. Daniel Morad
and Keaton Doerksen are also expected to bring Birel colours to the fight
for the win.
Sunday will be all SRFKC action, with practice starting at 9:00 am and
racing getting underway at 1:00 p.m.

kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct
and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the
safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the
racing ladder to automobile racing. At the end of the season, eight drivers
will be selected from the series, plus two drivers from the ASN Canadian
National Championships. They will be invited to a one-day evaluation test
at the Bridgestone/Firestone Racing Academy at Mosport, provided they are
16 years of age prior to the date of the test. Out of those 10 drivers, two
will earn a full scholarship to the 2004 the 2003 Bridgestone / FormulaCar
Magazine F2000 Racing Series.
