Moldflow Announces the Release of Moldflow Design Link 4.0; Latest CAD connectivity solution supports CATIA V5 users
WAYLAND, Mass.--June 19, 2003--Moldflow Corporation , the world leader in software solutions for optimizing the design and manufacture of plastic products, today announced the release of Moldflow Design Link(TM) (MDL(TM)) 4.0. Moldflow Design Link 4.0 provides a geometry data translation interface between Moldflow's range of simulation products and leading CAD systems using standard file formats such as IGES, STEP, Parasolid and PTC's Pro/ENGINEER(R) and now Dassault(R) Systemes' CATIA V5 part files.New for MDL 4.0 is MDL/CATIA(R) V5, which is based on the Spatial 3D ACIS Interoperability kernel. MDL/CATIA V5 can be used for the import of CATIA V5 part files. MDL 4.0 can be used to import CAD model geometry directly into Moldflow's part and mold design optimization solutions, Moldflow Plastics Advisers(R) (MPA(R)) and Moldflow Plastics Insight(R) (MPI(TM)), decreasing the amount of time required to prepare models for analysis.
Mike McCullough, design engineer at OEM/Erie Inc. said, "We've seen a 10 percent time savings for importing and meshing files using MDL 4.0. MDL 4.0 significantly improves the import and meshing process. I can now save a CATIA file and read it right into Moldflow software. Parts with living hinges, for instance, require very tight meshes in the hinge area. Further, prior to using MDL 4.0, in order to perform local mesh refinement, I needed regions or surfaces. The only way to achieve the meshing was to create regions from the meshed entities. However, in doing so, I lost some of the geometry accuracy if the initial mesh was not dense enough. Now, using MDL 4.0 surface capability, I can mesh and re-mesh the file as needed and not lose any geometry. I would definitely recommended MDL 4.0 as a timesaving methodology to import and mesh files."
Other MDL 4.0 enhancements include:
-- | MPI users can specify a target mesh size for models that are meshed directly with MDL |
-- | Parasolid version 14.1 files are now supported. |
MDL 4.0 supports MPI 4.0 Revision 1, MPI 4.1 and MPA 6.0 Revision 3 or higher. To learn more about Moldflow Design Link 4.0 or any of Moldflow's Design Optimization or Manufacturing Solutions products, contact your local Moldflow representative or visit www.moldflow.com.
