Cummins Westport receives first engine order for para transit service

VANCOUVER, June 18 -- Cummins Westport Inc. announced today that it has received its first engine order for use in para transit service, a door-to- door program for those functionally unable to use a fixed route system.

Citizens Area Transit, the transit agency for Las Vegas, ordered 51 buses powered by the Cummins Westport 195-horsepower B Gas Plus engines. Scheduled for delivery in July 2003, these 5.9-liter engines will be installed into new 28-foot buses using chassis manufactured by Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. Citizens Area Transit operates 137 buses running solely on compressed natural gas (CNG) and these 51 buses will replace aging CNG-powered buses in the fleet. The Cummins distributor responsible for the order is Cummins Intermountain, Inc. of North Las Vegas, Nevada.
