Rick Dow Joins Midas as Chief Marketing Officer

ITASCA, Ill.--June 18, 2003--Rick Dow, who most recently served as senior vice president of marketing and sales at Burger King Corporation, is joining Midas, Inc. as senior vice president and chief marketing officer.
At Midas, Dow, 53, will be responsible for the development and implementation of all marketing programs--including marketing strategy, advertising, consumer research, media, creative services, field marketing, promotions and one-to-one marketing--for Midas and its network of 1,900 franchised and company-owned automotive service centers in the United States and Canada.
"We are fortunate that Rick is joining Midas to lead our marketing efforts as the company renews its focus on our retail presence, growing sales and improving the profitability of the Midas system," said Alan D. Feldman, Midas' president and chief executive officer.
"Rick's strong background in retailing, marketing, consumer branding, customer loyalty programs and, very importantly, working effectively with franchisees, will enable him to make immediate contributions to Midas and our franchisees," Feldman said.
"Rick is a very knowledgeable marketing professional with an astute grasp of our marketing and operations issues. He will bring solid strategic input to the Midas system," said Joe Stranik, president of the International Midas Dealers Association and operator of nine Midas shops in the Minneapolis area.
Dow was at Miami-based Burger King from 2001 until the company was sold to an investment group earlier this year. While he was senior vice president of marketing at Burger King, the chain achieved its first year of positive comparable store sales in seven years.
Prior to joining Burger King, Dow was senior vice president for brand management and marketing from 2000 to 2001 at West Group, a leading provider of e-information solutions to the legal and education fields, government agencies and corporations.
From 1985 to 2000, Dow held a variety of marketing management posts at Northwest Airlines, including serving as vice president for marketing programs and worldwide advertising from 1995 to 2000.
Dow holds a bachelor of science degree in English from the University of Notre Dame, and serves on the boards of Make a Wish Foundation of America and Wilderness Inquiries.

Midas is one of the world's largest providers of automotive service, offering exhaust, brake, steering and suspension services, as well as batteries, climate control and maintenance services at 2,700 franchised, licensed and company-owned Midas shops in 19 countries, including 1,900 in the United States and Canada.
