Nissan Micra milestone reached in record time

Paris, June 18 -- Nissan's (Euroclear : 3377, Bloomberg : NISS @FP, Reuters : RICP.PA) Sunderland plant will break one of its own production records today (18/6/03) by building its 100,000th new Micra in just over six months.

On average, nearly 4,000 Micras have rolled off the line every week since Tony Blair and Nissan President, Carlos Ghosn, launched production of the new model last November.

The achievement is the result of production volume being increased to keep pace with excellent customer demand for the new car right across Europe. Total Micra sales across the Continent are up 48% against last year.

Managing Director of Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd (NMUK), Colin Dodge said: "In the first full year of production of the previous Micra, we built around 150,000 cars. For the new Micra, we have raised our production capacity to 200,000 units a year, in response to strong customer demand."

The 100,000th Micra is scheduled to come off the line at 21.52 on Wednesday 18th June 2003. It will be sold to a customer in the UK.
