Moldflow Ships Moldflow Plastics Insight 4.1 Software; Feature Packed Release Demonstrates Product Development Commitment to Customer Requests
WAYLAND, Mass.--June 18, 2003--Moldflow Corporation , the world leader in software solutions for optimizing the design and manufacture of plastic products, today started shipping Moldflow Plastics Insight(R) (MPI(TM)) 4.1. The software offers significant upgrades in the areas of 3D functionality, pre- and post-processing, simulation, application programming interfaces (API), and new hardware support.Extending Moldflow's lead in the area of 3-D simulation technology, MPI/3D now includes the prediction of fiber orientation and resulting mechanical properties, as well as the prediction of their contribution to part warpage. Enhanced pre-processing meshing tools decrease both model preparation and analysis times and post-processing tools such as automatic AVI file creation make it easy for users to communicate results to colleagues and customers. New simulation capability includes analysis of Synventive's Dynamic Feed(R) and Trexel's MuCell(R) microcellular foam injection molding processes. New application programming interface (API) capabilities allow users to extract results data from MPI and create custom result plots. Also added in MPI 4.1 is support for the Intel Itanium 2 processor on HP-UX platforms and 3D Connexion's 3D motion controllers.
According to Jimmy Wouters, project engineer at Cel Kunststoffen KHLim, "The new MPI/3D Fiber simulation opens up new research possibilities. This tool can be used to gain more understanding of fiber-filled materials and I can better design products using these materials. The new warpage visualization tools in MPI/Synergy, especially the bending curvature, are quite useful to better understand the effects of the warpage. The API scripting capability is absolutely tops! Thanks to the API tools, I was able to import a foreign type, which was otherwise impossible to import. By writing a small script, it took me only 20 minutes. Moldflow helps me every day with really tough decisions regarding the special injection techniques my company investigates such as gas injection, fiber, injection-compression, special mold materials, and in-mold labeling. As there is very little information or experience available about these new techniques, the only reliable source of information is simulation."
