AGENCY.COM Co-Founder Launches New Venture; Veteran Entrepreneur Starts Product Design and Marketing Firm
SOUTH SALEM, N.Y., June 17 -- Invention Asylum, LLC, an idea and invention development firm, announced today that it is open for business. Kyle Shannon, co-founder and former Chief Creative Officer of AGENCY.COM (www.agency.com) has teamed up with architect and illustrator Keith Milone to start the new company.
"Having worked with Kyle during my tenure on AGENCY.COM's Board of Directors, I am excited for him and optimistic about the new venture," said Tom DeLong, Professor of Management Practice at the Harvard Business School. "He's got the right combination of skills, creativity and persistence to make a company like this successful."
In 1995, Kyle co-founded online marketing firm AGENCY.COM with Time Inc. executive Chan Suh. At its peak, AGENCY.COM had annual revenues of more than $200 million, 1700+ employees and offices in the US, Europe and Asia. AGENCY.COM went public in 1999 and was sold in 2001 in a transaction that included Omnicom, one of the world's largest advertising holding companies.
"If there is a qualification for inventing, it is this: a bottomless pit of youthful curiosity," said Shannon, "and curiosity is something I have in spades. Combined with the incredible lessons I learned while launching and growing AGENCY.COM, I'm eager to put my skills to the test with Invention Asylum."
Kyle's successful entrepreneurial track record also includes: founding New Voice Theatre Company in NYC; founding the non-profit organization the World Wide Web Artists Consortium (www.WWWAC.org); co-creating the first online art & culture magazine, Urban Desires (www.desires.com); and writing or co-writing seven feature screenplays including the recently-optioned Amazombies! (www.amazombies.com). Kyle also serves on the Board of Directors of the National Neurofibromatosis Foundation. (www.nf.org).
Keith Milone -- the other half of the new venture -- is an award-winning architect, who co-founded NYC architecture firm Skyline Architects and Designers. His work has been published in several magazines. Keith was later recruited as Director of Operations for Citibank's Portfolio & Occupancy Management Group. He was then recruited as a Vice President for a commercial real estate provider, serving as a Senior Team Leader, managing commercial real estate transactions nationwide for General Electric's GE Capital unit.
"I've been inventing all my life," said Mr. Milone about starting an invention company, "and I realized that if I was ever going to make a run at turning those ideas into marketable products, it was now or never. This is going to be an amazing company and I couldn't be happier!"
