Johnny Miller To See Double Duty At Infineon
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SUBMITTED BY MILLER RACING JOHNNY MILLER DOING DOUBLE DUTY AT INFINEON JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich® Tires Cup points leader Johnny Miller will do double duty at Infineon Raceway this weekend. The driver of the No. 64 Eaton Cutler-Hammer Jaguar XKR will compete in the NASCAR Winston Cup race being held Sunday, just prior to the Trans-Am Series race at the Northern California road course. Miller, of Johnson City, Tenn., will pilot the No. 4 Kodak Pontiac Grand Prix fielded by Morgan-McClure Motorsports in the Winston Cup race, before taking the wheel his Rocketsports Jaguar. The start will be Miller’s first in the Winston Cup Series. Miller has tested previously with Morgan-McClure Motorsports at Road Atlanta. “This is tremendous,” said Miller, who topped off a string of three podium finishes with a victory in the Round 4 of the Trans-Am Series Championship at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut. “This is just a great opportunity. I’m truly honored to race with these guys. The team is very competitive and that gives me a lot of confidence. “Larry McClure, Kodak and the guys on the team have given me this opportunity, and I just want to do the best that I can for them,” added Miller. Miller lives just down the street from Morgan-McClure’s Abington, Va. Shop. Miller’s had a long relationship with the team, which worked with him when he ran his own Trans-Am Series team from 1994 until 2000. During that time, Miller won Rookie of the Year in 1998, his first full season in the Trans-Am Series, and BBS Most Improved Driver in 1998, “My house is about 20 miles from the shop,” said Miller, who has recorded two victories, 36 top-five and 62 top-ten finishes in 94 career Trans-Am Series starts. “The guys there have always been good to me, helping me out when I ran my own Trans-Am Series team. They’ve just been a great group to be around. Miller is optimistic about the race. “You always go out there to win,” said Miller, “but, moreover, I just want to do a great job for the team. I think we have a chance to win this race. The team is strong and the equipment is top notch—hopefully the driver can get it done. “We’re looking for a good finish,” added Miller, who finished ninth in his sole Trans-Am Series start at Infineon. “I like Infineon. It’s a very three-dimensional and technical track. The hills add a lot to it and it’s also pretty fast.” Miller said the Winston Cup car will be quite a bit different to drive than his Trans-Am Series car. However, he said he’s up to the challenge. “Stock cars react very differently to driver input,” said Miller. “They’re a lot heavier, with basically the same type of brakes and smaller tires. So, they have less grip and have to have softer springs. However, they are a lot of fun and if driven well, a stock car will reward the driver quite a bit.
