Miller Prepares For Infineon
MILLER DRIVES HIS WAY TO THE DRIVERS' CHAMPIONSHIP POINT LEAD
Sonoma, Calif. - Starting the 2003 Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich
Tires Cup season with four consecutive podium finishes, including his dominate
win from the pole at Lime Rock Park, Johnny Miller is on pace to win his first
Drivers' Championship. Miller, who drives the No. 64 Eaton Cutler-Hammer Jaguar
XKR, leads the point battle by two points heading into this weekend's
Trans-Am Series race during the Infineon Raceway Winston Cup weekend, June 20-22.
In 2003, Miller qualified in the top five at each of the first four races
while collecting a pair of third place finishes and second place points at
Long Beach, in addition to his recent victory at Lime Rock. Miller, who will
make his 95th career Trans-Am start at Infineon Raceway, has not missed a race
since 1996. Since winning his first Trans-Am race at the 2000 San Diego Grand
Prix, Miller has finished out of the top ten only once in 29 races.
Miller, who hopes to build on his two-point lead in the run for the
championship, knows that Infineon will be an important part of that. "I love the
track. It's a real classic track, sort of like an icon with the Cup guys racing
here," said Miller, who started fifth and finished ninth in 2001 in his only
start at Infineon. "Starting here at Infineon, I have to win every race and
just keep earning points.
"The track changes a lot throughout the day which I think is the most
challenging aspect. The track really fluctuates with temperature," added Miller,
who has accumulated many miles in testing various other race cars at Infineon.
"As far as the style of the track, it's three dimensional, up over the hill,
down the straightaway, through the esses. It's the type of track that
challenges all of your skills."
Round 5 of the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup at Infineon
Raceway is scheduled for Sunday, June 22 at approximately 4:30 PST and will air on
a tape-delayed basis on the SPEED Channel on June 27 at 9 p.m. EST.
