Harley-Davidson, Inc. Comments on Retail Motorcycle Sales
MILWAUKEE, June 16 -- Harley-Davidson, Inc. today announced clarifying remarks in light of a nonintentional comment that one of its executives made regarding the prospect of strong June retail sales of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The comment was based on 10 days of June retail data.
"There has been significant speculation regarding retail sales of Harley- Davidson motorcycles in the second quarter. While we don't release mid- quarter information on dealer retail sales, we do know that many stakeholders attempt to use motorcycle industry data to estimate performance of our U.S. dealers," said Jeffrey L. Bleustein, chairman and chief executive officer of Harley-Davidson, Inc. "We caution investors that retail sales data can be volatile over short periods of time and that positive or negative comparisons of weekly, monthly or sometimes even quarterly performance need to be taken with a grain of salt. We are pleased with the retail performance our dealers have experienced since the weather improved in the second quarter. The quarter is still a few weeks from being over, but we are expecting that Harley-Davidson retail registrations in the quarter will grow faster than the overall motorcycle industry."
The Company does not regularly provide mid-quarter updates and has no intention of doing so in the future.
