CASCAR Super Series Round #3 // Exide Batteries 200 km June 14, 2003 Thomson earns the pole for Sunday's Exide Batteries 200km at Mosport Int'l Raceway MOSPORT, ON - CASCAR Super Series points leader Don Thomson will sit on the pole for Sunday's Exide Batteries 200 km at Mosport Int'l Raceway. The Home Hardware Chevy driver lapped the 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course in a time of 1 minute and 27.205 seconds, which translates into a speed of 163.353 km/h. Thomson set his fast time during the first of two half-hour qualifying sessions, which were held on Saturday afternoon at the legendary Mosport road course. Starting second will be Jim Lapcevich who recorded his best lap of the day during the second session (1:28.533). His brother, Jeff Lapcevich, will start third based on his time of 1:28.600, which was also recorded during the second half-hour session. In all, 28 drivers took part in qualifying for the third CASCAR Super Series race of the season, and the first to be contested on a road course. Don Thomson has finished second in each of the season's first two events and has a slim, two-point lead in the championship chase, over Kerry Micks, driver of the UFCW Taurus. Micks will line up fifth for Sunday's race, alongside of Peter Gibbons, who posted the third-fastest time during the second qualifying session. Pontiac was qualified for former Super Series regular Duke Sawchuk. Mike Alguire, the usual driver of the car, had a prior work commitment and was unable to make it to Mosport on Saturday. Alguire will race on Sunday, but will have to start from the back of the pack... Pete Shepherd Jr. and Sean Stafford made their inaugural CASCAR appearances on Saturday.
