CHICAGO, June 12 -- The Board of Directors of BorgWarner Inc. has announced the election of Timothy M. Manganello, 53, as its chairman and CEO. Previously, he was President and CEO of BorgWarner Inc. Manganello succeeds John F. Fiedler, who retired as chairman last month.

Fiedler, 65, became BorgWarner's chairman and CEO in January 1995. Prior to that, he served as president and chief operating officer. During his tenure, BorgWarner increased its revenues from $800 million to roughly $3 billion, doubled its number of employees and grew from a largely North American company to one with a geographically balanced customer base. He joined BorgWarner in 1989 as vice president of marketing and sales for BorgWarner Morse TEC.

Before joining BorgWarner, Manganello held product engineering management positions at Chrysler Corporation from 1973 to 1981 and sales management positions at PT Components-LinkBelt from 1981 to 1988. Manganello holds a bachelor's degree and master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan. He also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School and is a graduate of the Chrysler Institute program. Manganello serves on the National Advisory Board for the University of Michigan Engineering School and on the Board of Trustees for the Manufacturers Alliance (MAPI).
