AIADA Lauds House Passage of Class Action Reform; Auto Dealers Now Target Senate for Grassroots Efforts

WASHINGTON, June 12 -- The American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA) lauded the passage today of H.R. 1115, the Class Action Reform Act of 2003. "We are very pleased by the bi-partisan support for class action reform and appreciate the support of the 253 lawmakers who voted in favor of this important legislation," stated AIADA Chairman Tim Smith. Class action reform is the first step toward restoring balance to the nation's judicial system by bringing a fair and efficient method for the resolution of legitimate claims by all parties. By relieving businesses of the threat of frivolous lawsuits, business owners will be encouraged to introduce new products into the marketplace while contributing to the economy through job opportunities and overall business expansion.

AIADA will now focus its effort on the Senate where a vote is expected later this summer. "We have built a greater awareness of the need for class action reform and the impact it has on America's business community, including automobile dealers," said Smith. "Now we must continue the momentum we created in the House and work for the same results in the Senate. Our job is not done until this bill is signed into law."

AIADA supports class action reform on the basis that the public is best served by encouraging innovation and lowering consumer prices, both of which are jeopardized by frivolous lawsuits.

AIADA represents America's 10,000 franchised international nameplate automobile dealerships and their 500,000 employees.
